Liane Zimbler (1892-1987) was born in Přerov (Moravia) and studied Art and Architecture at the State Art School in Austria. She became the first woman in Europe to be awarded an architect's license and opened offices in Vienna and Prague. Among other innovations, Zimbler dedicated much of her work to bringing the green into the domestic interior, believing it to be an important consideration to the creation of a functional and healthy living space. She even published the first theoretical articles on how to bring plants into the home, where to place them, and how to design shelves, alcoves and winter gardens.
