Felice Rix (1893-1967) was a designer active in Vienna, where she studied at the School
of Applied Arts under Josef Hoffmann. Around 1914 Rix designed her first works for the
Wiener Werkstätte including fashion illustrations which were a part of the Mode Wien
1914/15 portfolio. A total of twelve portfolios were published, which were examples of
Wiener Wersktätte fashion designs. In the following years Rix produced hundreds of
drawings, mainly for fabric patterns, but also for wallpaper, embroidery, enamel work,
fashion and home accessories, toys, and graphic artwork. After his marriage to Japanese
architect Isaburo Ueno, Rix moved to Kyoto, where she became an influential professor at
today’s Kyoto City University of Arts and later set up the International Design
Institute.
